The Evil Aide

I have met her. My new arch nemesis. These people only come along once every five years or so. She works at Anna's school as a teachers' aide.

The woman's whole job description is to integrate ONE special needs boy into kindergarten. That's it. The evil aide has decided to enlarge her job description to include bouncing and verbally abusing every kindergartener (all 100) at the school. But I am onto her. She yelled at Elizabeth one day when we were picking up Anna from school (she won't again).

So last week I saw her do something resembling a screaming/pointing dance directed at a little girl for prematurely taking one bite of a cookie at the 100-day celebration (really, don't even get me started). I gave her the look of "You are despicable and I am shocked at your behavior" - the one that only a defensive mother can give. She looked away, but as we all know, you cannot escape that kind of glare. She couldn't help it. She looked back. And away again. And back. Like a moth to the flame. I held the glare as only a really angry mother can until she shuffled over to involve herself in some new important task, like handing out "eat and you will die a shameful death" 100-day cookies.

Today when we dropped off Anna, the evil aide started to shriek and gesture at my car to move forward faster to unload the kids (because we all know that it is worth the risk of running over a child if we can move everyone through the line faster). When she saw who was driving, she blanched. As she gently helped Anna out of the car, she sweetly straightened her backpack, smiled at her, and said kindly "Hello, Sweetie. How are you today?"

Ah, the power of the look.

Score -
Defender of (occasionally naughty but usually pretty good) defenseless kindergarteners (1), Evil Aide (0)

P.S. Yes, I am planning on making a formal complaint to the school. Just from what I have seen, that woman has manhandled at least 10 or 15 children. Except Anna, because her Mom has the look. (triumphant and somewhat evil laugh)
